The previous week was the worst one for American stock exchanges for the last decade – all key US stock indices demonstrated a serious fall. The Dow Jones Index dropped 6.9% (which is a record-low decline since October 2008), the NASDAQ Composite Index fell 8.4% (which is a record-low drop since November 2008) and the S&P 500 Index shrank 7.1% (which is a record-fast fall since November 2011). The indices fell so rapidly that they came close to the worst indicators since the Great Depression.
