The leading trading platforms across the world experienced one more week of growth. Last week, the US stock indices registered new historical record-highs. Since the beginning of the year, the American S&P 500 Index grew 18.6%, while the British FTSE Index rose 12.4%.
As before, the main growth drivers on markets over the previous week were statements of US Federal Reserve System (FRS) Chairman Ben Bernanke. On Wednesday, 17 July, Mr. Bernanke said that the program for repurchasing securities that is being implemented by the American central bank is “by no means on a preset course.” In other words, the pace of asset purchases could be reduced or increased quickly, depending on economic conditions. Markets gratefully reacted to this statement about a flexible approach used by the Government to implement the country’s monetary policy and continued to grow.
